Meet the Judges
Jennifer Howlet Rousseau
Hunter & Halter Judge
A career horsewoman, Jennifer was recruited in 1992 to manage a private equestrian estate in Northern Illinois and immigrated to the United States from her home in Montreal, Canada. At Tudor Oaks Farm, she was responsible for developing a Haflinger breeding, training, and marketing program which revolutionized the Haflinger breed market in North America. During her tenure at Tudor Oaks, she served on the very first AHR board, led the project of developing breed classification for North American Haflingers, initiated the education and certification of judges for breed classification, and was both an AHR and a World Haflinger Federation accredited judge. In her 30 years at Tudor Oaks Farm, the farm became known worldwide for importing the best bloodlines, including the stallions Aristocrat TOF, Stars ‘N Stripes TOF, Nobleman TOF, Neumeister TOF, and Standard of Excellence TOF, and the foundation mares Malvina TOF, Caro TOF, Maserata TOF, Arrifa TOF, Heike TOF and Rivella TOF. Along with the numerous Haflinger Breed National Championships won by this breeding program, Tudor Oaks Farm Haflingers competed with winning records against all breeds in USDF dressage competition, USEF pony hunters and jumpers, USEA Eventing, and ADS Combined and Pleasure driving.
In the early 2000’s Jennifer began building an active teaching and training program for the sport of Eventing under her own business banner, L’Esprit Equestrian, LLC, in addition to her role at Tudor Oaks Farm. L’Esprit Equestrian is now thriving as one of the premiere training programs in the country and is located at the beautiful Jigsaw Farms in Woodstock, Illinois.
Jennifer is a United States Eventing Association (USEA) Certified Level IV instructor, serves as an Advisor to the Eventing Coaches Program, and is co-chair of the USEA ECP committee. She chaired the committee which authored the recently published USEA Eventing Handbook by the Levels. Jennifer was awarded the Going Forward Grant for licensed officials funded by the Broussard Family Trust and has successfully completed the requirements to become an “r” Eventing judge for all three phases of the sport.
